Drawing Your Circle of Control – What Can You Wag About?

Hi friends! Eevee here, and today I want to share a really helpful trick my humans use to keep their tails wagging even when things get tough. It's called the "Circle of Control," and it's an excellent cognitive-behavioral tool for reducing anxiety and letting go of perfectionism. Just like I know I can control whether I sit or stay, but I can't control if a squirrel runs by, understanding what's inside your control and outside your control can bring so much peace. It helps you focus your precious energy where it truly makes a difference, instead of wasting it on things you can't change, which can feel as frustrating as trying to herd cats! When you spend less time worrying about the uncontrollable, you free up mental and emotional space to build a happier, more resilient you.

Imagine a circle. Inside that circle are all the things you have a direct say over. These are your choices, your reactions, and your efforts. Think about it: you choose your attitude when faced with a challenge – will you whine a little or bravely trot forward? You choose your words – will they be kind and constructive, or harsh and unhelpful? And you definitely choose your effort – how much energy and focus will you put into a task or a relationship? These are your superpowers! Recognizing these internal levers gives you a profound sense of agency and empowerment, reminding you that even in difficult situations, you have significant power over your own experience and how you respond to the world around you.
