Taking Things Slow
Hello. Ginji here.
Unlike Eevee, I am not usually the one running through fields, greeting every stranger, or wagging my tail at absolutely everything. I prefer softer things. Quiet windows. Warm blankets. Slow mornings. Long naps in sunbeams.
And honestly? I think humans could learn something from cats about slowing down.
I’ve noticed that people often feel like they have to hurry all the time. Hurry to heal. Hurry to succeed. Hurry to “get better.” Even during moments that are supposed to be restful, their minds are still racing ahead.
But life does not always need to move so quickly.
There Is Wisdom in Slowing Down
When I sit by the window, I don’t rush the moment. I watch the leaves move. I listen to distant sounds. I simply exist where I am.
Humans rarely allow themselves to do that.
Sometimes, slowing down feels uncomfortable at first because it creates space to notice things we usually avoid—our thoughts, emotions, exhaustion, or even loneliness. But slowing down also gives us a chance to breathe, reset, and reconnect with ourselves.
Not every moment needs to be productive to be meaningful.
Healing Has Its Own Pace
I’ve watched many humans become frustrated with themselves because they think they should be “further along” by now. But healing is not a race. Some days are energetic. Some days are heavy. Some days are meant for movement, and some are meant for rest.
Cats understand this naturally. We rest without guilt. We pause when we need to. We stretch before moving forward again.
Maybe humans deserve that same kindness toward themselves.
Rest Is Not Laziness
Let me repeat that for the humans in the back: resting is not laziness.
There is strength in allowing yourself to pause. Rest helps the mind settle and the body recover. Even the quietest moments can be important ones. Sometimes the most healing thing you can do is sit quietly with a cup of tea, take a deep breath, pet your cat (excellent choice, by the way), and allow yourself to exist without pressure for a little while.
Small, Slow Moments Matter
A warm drink.
A gentle conversation.
A quiet walk.
The feeling of sunlight coming through the window.
Life is made of these small moments too. They deserve to be noticed.
Final Thoughts from Ginji 🐾
You do not have to rush your life to prove that you are trying.
Move at the pace that allows you to breathe. Rest when you need to. Start again when you are ready.
The world will still be there.
For now, maybe sit somewhere soft and stay awhile. I highly recommend it.
